This is a relacquered early 1st series Buescher Aristocrat tenor circa 1936, serial number 274695, in good restorable condition- the horn actually plays pretty well right now, but to be dependable would, I think, need at least a thorough regulation, and even better, a complete rebuild. Other than some snap-ins, the only original piece missing is one of the two brass cross members of the bell key guard (see photo)- this is obviously not vital to the horn but can be replaced with a bit of brass rod. All the original orange rollers are here, all but 2 or 3 moving well; all the Norton springs are here; about 2/3 or the snap-in resonators seem to be here; the engraving remains very visible and of decent depth. The horn has its share of small and medium dents and a few solders; overall, though, it’s reasonably straight and has never been badly smashed up. The receiver has a few nicks on its top edge but receives the neck tenon well and tightens up right; the stem of the body octave mechanism that activates the neck key is slightly bent. The neck’s never been bent badly- it has had some dentwork done at the octave key mount on top; the neck tenon itself has one fine crack about 1/4 inch long straight from its edge and 2 very short ones near it- while this may look bad it won’t keep the horn from playing well, and these cracks can be repaired; the tenon is slightly out of round; the neck tip with its original rollout is virtually perfect. The horn comes in an older wooden Bundy case that’s somewhat shabby, could possibly be fixed up for more use but will at least suffice for safe shipping.
