Up for auction is a Buescher True Tone Low Pitch Tenor Saxophone. Buescher is an excellent manufacturer of saxophones and this item is a reflection of their quality work. I did some research and using the serial # 81849 I found most sources estimating the age of this sax to be around 1921-1922. Cosmetically, this item is in great shape considering its age. There are some signs of wear and aging on it from previous use, such as some tarnishing, minor scratches from normal handling but (as you can see from the images above) overall this item is a good shape. There are no major dents or damage that I could find. The biggest cosmetic damage in my opinion would be on the top curving portion of the mouthpiece (image 11). I am listing this item “as is” because I am not a musician who specializes in saxophones and don’t know how to fully test the instrument. I was able to produce a rich sound and the keys seemed to be working fine, but once again I am not an expert and cannot say it is fully functional. Because I am listing this item “as is” I will not be able to accept returns, so please bid conscientiously. The sax includes everything shown above. The case that comes with the sax is damaged. The handle is broken, the hinges close awkwardly and there is wear through out. Despite this, overall this a rare find and I am confident the next owner will be satisfied with this Saxophone. About 85-90% of the original lacquer remains There are a few physical blemishes. The neck has been slightly pulled down and a few dents have been carefully removed from the bottom bow. The bell flare also had one small dent rolled out. This horn still has the original pads and is currently in poor playing condition. The left hand and the palm keys are semi-playable (at least enough to form a preliminary assessment), and the sound is HUGE. Even though it’s leaking badly, it seems quite free-blowing and quick to respond. Keep in mind it will still need a complete overhaul to reach its full playing potential.
