For sale is a beautiful vintage Yanagisawa A-5 Alto Saxophone in extraordinary playing condition. In 1965 the A-5 (1965-1975) was introduced. The 5 series represented their top of the line horn ala todays 99x series. These horns were all hand made. The A-5 series of horns have a very centered tone and shows a major amount of influence from the Selmer Mark VI without being a true copy. It has a similar bore as well as many keywork and design elements that evoke the memory of the VI. The left pinky table is of a different design but shows selmer influence as well. It is a non-floating mechanism that bridges “vintage” and “selmer”. The horn has light action and an even response thoughout the register. This sax has been completely overhauled – new pads (Allied, Hermes, Premium Deluxe Saxophone pads), cleaned, updated cork and felt work, springs examined, adjusted to perfect the action, etc.. The only significant blemish is to the front of the bell lip, which appeared to have been bent or flattened(?) and then straightened/reparied, leaving a series of striations. The lacquer was lost in that small area as well as the inside opening of the bell, as the photos demonstrate – it is virtually intact on the rest of the horn (95+% original lacquer). Aside from that, there are only dings in the bow, no dents, minimal scuffing, stratches which are primarily surface type. The bell lip damage has no impact on the horn’s sound, as it has been play tested by myself, a professional tech and a couple of pro players, all finding the intonation to be perfect, the sound amazing, the altissimo great and the action excellent. This is the best playing and sounding alto I have ever played, and I am comparing it to the Mark VI, Martin Committee II & III, Buescher Big B, Conn Chu Berry, 6M, and Constellation, and the King Zepher. Also, the case is the original case, and it is in great shape, inside and outside – latches work perfectly and it has two handles, the top one a pull strap, also in great condition..
